Hello again to all,

The Post continues to do well at this time. As always I thank our team of officers and committee chairmen for all of the good work that thy do. Thank you to the Sons and the Auxiliary for their support and to all who help our Post be successful.

Our annual Post 1302 Day of Golf (Jack Harris Memorial) went well. It was a great day for all who attended and for our Post. Thank you to Jim Murphy and John Carney for running it and thank you to the people who worked so hard to provide a great dinner. The Post grounds have never looked better. This is mainly due to the work that John

Trunk has been doing. John has been working diligently, volunteering his time, expertise, and tools to maintain and upgrade several areas of our grounds. Thank you very much John.

The Dutchess County American Legion elections were held on June 5th. Special thanks to Ron Ymbras from our Post for stepping up to be the County Vice-Commander for our area. We must support Ron by attending county meetings whenever we can, especially when Ron cannot attend.

There are many things, both large and small, that are done on an ongoing basis that are required to keep our Post running and looking great. These are but a few of the highlights.

In closing, I encourage you all to try to make our monthly meetings and check out our website at: www.arlingtonpost 1302 and

the rest of this newsletter. Please come on over and enjoy your Post and support it as best you can.

Since we last met, Post 1302 has again lost some members. Helen Murphy was past Post 1302 Commander and past Auxiliary

Commander. Fritz Meyer was past Post Commander and past Dutchess County Legion Commander. Hans (John) Jensen was a dedicated

legionnaire and Arlington Honor Guard member. Ed Sumski from the SAL was a highly respected and valued member of the Sons.

Note: Because of the Labor Day Holiday, the next Post meeting will be on September 10th.

John “Terry” Eagen, Commander

The 1st Annual Bob Morano Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 10th at College Hill Golf Course. It will be a four man scramble with a shot gun start at 9:00 am with registration starting at 8:00 am.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the American Legion Post 1302. There will be refreshments at the turn and following golf there will be awards and dinner at Aloy’s Garden Restaurant in Poughkeepsie.

The cost will be: $85.00 per golfer or $340.00 per foursome. Applications are at the Post Bar.

The members are paying their dues at a nice pace. We have over 200 members paid already.

Unfortunately our membership is down to 442 members. In the last year the Post has lost over 20 members due to passing. We lost another 12 to non-payment of dues. I will try to get some of them back. The summer is over. It’s time to settle down to business. I still need your support to secure new members for all units of the Post.

I hope you enjoyed your summer. I had 2 short vacation weeks and they were very pleasant and relaxing.

On Saturday August 6th the S.A.L again hosted their annual Lobster Bake. The day started off with Clams,

Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Sausage & Peppers/Onions, etc. This was followed by a Lobster Tail Dinner served with Sliced Steak, Baked Potato and Corn on the Cob. Many THANKS go to all the volunteers who prepared everything in addition to spending many hours cooking and serving the food. Members of Post 1302 and the

Pirate Canoe Club assisted with the day. There are too many to name and we don’t want to miss anyone, so A great big THANK YOU to all.

Frank Sculco served as the event Chairman and did a wonderful job. Hopefully we can hold this event

annually, but it does require a lot of work on everyone’s part, so if we do hold this we will be looking for more volunteers to help.

The SAL Car Show is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th and many volunteers are

needed to make the day successful. We will be posting a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board

at the bar for anyone who can be of assistance. Car Show Shirt Sponsorships are available at $75.00.

In addition, check out the SAL Raffle in the bar area. We are awarding two (2) prizes this year, a large 6 burner gas grill and a smaller gas grill. Donations are $5.00 for 7 chances. Winners will be drawn at the Car Show. Please support the SAL in this endeavor.

SAL Golf Tournament. What a Day! The weather was perfect. The golf course was in great shape and all the golfers had a great time. We had 56 golfers and everyone was there on time. Many thanks go to our cooking staff: Mark Along, Carl Hartner, Joe Mattino and Carol McCann, our ticket salespersons: Herb Pelton, and our honorary Sonette Heather McCaffrey. They all did a fantastic job. A huge Thank You to Darlene Conrad for doing the necessary shopping for the event. And another Thank You to Carol McCann for her soliciting many of our gift prizes.

SAL DUES -   A 2016 100% streamer was attached to the SAL Flag at the August meeting. Hopefully, our renewals and new memberships will keep us over the century mark. We now have over 115 members. If you have a potential member in mind let us know so we can bring that son into our Post Family and meet our goal again this year. All male descendants (sons-through great grandsons) of a war veteran are eligible to be members of the SAL. Dues notices for the New Year have been mailed. If you can, please send in your dues early so we can avoid repeat mailing. Postage is a high expense that we would like to eliminate as much as possible. Thank you to all who have already sent in their dues. We still have over 40 people who have not renewed their membership. If you haven’t received a notice, we probably don’t have your correct address. Regular member dues are - $30.00 per year, Junior Member/Officer and Joint Memberships are $10.00 per year. Please drop off at the Post or mail to: Bill Doxsey - 147 Bower Road - Poughkeepsie, NY - 12603

Thomas Royce, SAL Commander
